RBC/36 Tips

Customer question:

My system does not always retain the remote system name in the prompt following a successful transfer. How can I force the remote system name to be recorded?
Answer:
RBC/36 seems to occasionally loose the remote system name from the transfer prompts on certain System/36 systems. You can "reset" this situation by doing the following:
  1. Sign on to a fresh terminal session
  2. Type RBC and press ENTER to display the RBC menu
  3. Type RX000 and press ENTER
  4. Type RXL01 LOCNAME and press ENTER (replace LOCNAME with your remote system name)
  5. Sign off/on and then try your transfer, the LOCNAME should now show up in the transfer prompt

Customer question:

How can I change the company name that is stored within RBC without re-installing the product?
Answer:
RBC stores your company name during the initial software installation process. Many customers customize this with both company name and system name. When a system changes its role within the company, it may be necessary to change the stored name to provide a better description. The name can be changed by typing RXC01 from the RBC menu. This will prompt for a new company name and allows you to make this change without re-installing the product.

RBC/36 Technical Bulletin

Bulletin Dated: September 3, 1998

A customer is using RBC/36 on a new AS/400 running under an SSP Guest machine. They would like to have a new original install tape but their new system does not support the older QIC-60 tape density normally supplied to customers ordering RBC/36 on tape.

We have now developed a method for distributing RBC/36 on QIC-120 tape format. Contact us if you would like to receive your copy of RBC/36 in this format.

Bulletin Dated: August 21, 1996

RBC/36 can be used on the recently announced AS/400 Advanced System/36 model 436. This special hybrid computer allows users to run OS/400 and SSP operating systems simultaneously on the same machine. Multiple SSP sessions can be defined.

RBC/36 can be used to facilitate file sharing and communications between the various logical machines running within a single 9402-436 machine. This allows you to easily move files between SSP sessions and OS/400 sessions. All of the features of RBC/36 are supported and it will also work with RBC/400 when communicating with the OS/400 session.

The 9402-436 comes with an "I-LAN" internal LAN look-alike. It is a software implementation of a LAN that permits intra-machine communications. RBC/36 works across this I-LAN to send and retrieve files between the various logical systems running within the single physical machine.
